Calling all ghosthunters! I want to hear from you!

Twenty Questions about Ghosthunting Groups & You!

– a brief survey

It involves twenty questions, open ended – write as much or little as you have time and inclination and feel free to not answer any question, they are all optional! Obviously the more you can write the more useful!

All of your responses will be totally confidential, and if I ever wished to cite or quote something (without identifying the author) I would email you for specific permission, explaining exactly what I want to say and asking if I may use your words. I would never say anything that would identify and individual or group for fear of putting them in an awkward situation, so feel free to be brutally honest! Having been involved in paranormal research groups for just over twenty years now I know the politics, back biting and slander all too well. I therefore once again assure you personally that I will not be releasing any of this data, and that after I have used the questionnaires for the academic purpose I intend (see ‘Why the Survey?’ below for details) I will simply delete all the questionnaires.

I will not pass on your details or questionnaire or show it to any third party , and will not confirm or deny any persons involvement in the survey, or name any individual under any circumstances (unless the cops show up and arrest me for some bizarre reason, then I’ll sing like a canary!)  Please do not discuss any illegal or sensitive matter anyway on the survey – I really don’t need to know!

Please do not pass on the questionnaire directly – we all hate spam! However if you have friends who are involved in ghost hunting/psychical research, do invite them to contact me on chrisjensenromer@hotmail.com with the subject “Paranormal Group Survey” and I will send them a copy of this form. 🙂  So far we have had results form the UK,  USA and Australia – keep them coming!

ABOUT ME

I posted for many years as CJ.23 on the Most Haunted forum, and have been involved with psychic research in the UK since the early 1990’s. I’m currently a member of a number of small psychic research groups, and the veteran of over 100 “ghost nights”. I maintain this blog at https://jerome23.wordpress.com/ where I occasionally write on paranormal themes, and I’m pretty approachable and friendly. If you have any questions just drop me a line on chrisjensenromer@hotmail.com , as I think I mentioned before! I think most people would describe me as Earth was in the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy revision – “Mostly Harmless”- and tediously academic!

WHY THE SURVEY?

The last few years has seen an explosion of numbers in groups interested in investigating the paranormal. I thought this was in itself of interest, and a phenomenon worthy of study. I’m going to try and write an article eventually, for an academic parapsychology journal I might approach with the final research!), exploring the history, motivations and people’s experiences of these groups.

Given my twenty years in the area and long term commitment to running and supporting paranormal research groups, this will be an “insider’s view” – I’m not a journalist out to make us all look silly.   I won’t quote your words or details except in exceptional cases where I will email you directly for full permission first, get your consent, and even they it will be made ANONYMOUS before I post anything. If you are worried by this just ask me what I mean by email!

This is a very much a preliminary study – I’m not going to approach people directly, I’m going to ask interested parties to email me if they want to participate in my little questionnaire. Do tell friends about the survey  of they might be interested though, and pass on the link and my email  to them so they can approach me.

So how will I use the results? I’m going to try something called grounded research – I’m going to read every response, code them by finding things in common, and then develop further questions that I will explore for my final article. This might involve further research – hence my last question!

Thanks to the people who have requested surveys, and the lady who heroically filled it all in and got in back to me already! That was impressive!
